dont go breaking my heart from Joeann Murphy on Vimeo.
In order to shoot this video, we used several different shots. We filmed the video with about 8 different shots these were. Long shot of both the singers, to establish who the people are and where they are, we then also filmed a mid shot of both of them to show a good angle of both of them singing. We did also a close up of the two singers together to capture there facial expressions and lip syncing. We also chose to position the camera diagonally in front of one singer to capture a close up of a solo line an example of this is when Sophie sings Kiki Dee's line 'ooh, I gave you my heart'. And then we did the same vice versa filming adam singing his parts, so the focus is on him. We also placed the camera above the two actors diagonally to create a more dynamic angle of the two singing from above. We also mirrored this on the other side however always being careful not to break the 180 degree rule. This changes the shot from just getting straight views of the singers and makes it more interesting. Each shot needed about 3 takes, and some shots more, to get it right as the actors weren't always ready or made mistakes.
We directed the actors by encouraging them to put more enthusiasm in their expressions to make to performance more realistic. We also directed them to actually sing the lyrics instead of lip syncing it as it also makes it look more realistic.
We edited the footage together on Adobe premiere pro, this enabled us to place markers down on the timeline to record any changes in the beat so that we can change the shot to change as the beat hits. This helps us edit to the beat and makes music videos look slot more complimentary to the soundtrack and makes it flow better.
Using the layers to my advantage I took the best take of the music video all the way through and placed it on the timeline without the original sound. I then got the lip syncing in time with the main shot by lining up the soundtrack undermeath the shot and watching it back in order to move it precisely in time. After they were syncronised, I locked both of the layers so they are secure when I'm editing and I do not move them out of place as this is my guideline. I then used the above layers to place over other shots to create my music video.
